Foundation degrees are innovative higher road qualifications that offer you skills and knowledge employers demand. The Department of Criminology at the University of Leicester has an international reputation in security and risk management and through this degree, offers a spectrum of subjects calling on the wide range of expertise within the University.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will normally possess the following qualifications:
- Five (5) *CXC 'O' Level subjects or
- Five (5) *GCSE 'O' Level subjects
*CXC 'O' Level - from Grade 1 - 111 (grade 111 accepted from June 1999 exams only)
*GCSE 'O' Level - from Grade A - C or a pass taken prior to 1975
If you do not hold these qualifications but have previous experience within the security industry, police, armed forces or a similar profession the University of Leicester will be pleased to consider your application.
Level One Modules Include:
- Security & Risk Management: An Introduction
- Security & Risk Management: Concepts & Applications
- Management: Planning, Organising , Leadership & Control
- Management & Communication Skills
- Legal & Ethical Issues in Security and Risk Management
- Security & Risk Management in Context.
Successful completion of these 6 level one (1) modules is required for a certificate qualification.
Level Two Modules Include:
- Crime in the Workplace
- Security objectives: Identification & Planning
- Security & Technology: Systems & Applications
- Policy Design, Implementation & Review
- Research Methods
- Research Assignment
Start Dates - This programme commences in April and October of each year.
Duration - Students can undertake the programme over a period of between two to four years. Time varies with respect to the number of modules a student completes per year.
- 3 modules (4 year completion)
- 4 modules (3 year completion)
- 6 modules (2 year completion)
Application Deadline - Deadline date for receipt of applications is the end of January 2006 for the April 2006 intake.
