Masters in Business Administration (MBA)

The Edinburgh Business School MBA, Heriot-Watt University has been ranked as Europe 's Largest Distance Learning MBA and the second largest in the world by the Financial Times Newspaper survey of approximately 20 of the top global distance learning MBAs. Students can acquire their Masters in Business Administration from the Heriot-Watt University . You can acquire a General or Specialist Masters in a number of various areas

Entry Requirements:

  • The standard entry requirement for the MBA is an undergraduate degree from a recognised institution of Higher Education recognised by the Senate of Heriot-Watt University
  • Alternatively, you will be admitted onto the MBA when you have passed three MBA courses which must include at least 1 core Course

Programme Content:

    • Students can choose from one of two MBAs:
      • General
      • Specialisms in Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Strategic Planning or Public Administration

The General MBA consists of seven compulsory and any two elective courses.

 

The Specialism MBA consists of seven compulsory and any four elective courses from a specialist group.

Students can obtain three qualifications en route to completion of the MBA:

  • Postgraduate Certification In Business Administration
    To become eligible for the award of a Postgraduate, a student must be matriculated and successfully complete three MBA courses, at least one of which must be a core course.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration
    To become eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, a student must be matriculated and successfully complete six MBA courses, at least one of which must be a core MBA course.
  • Specialist (named) Postgraduate Diplomas
    To become eligible for the award of a Specialist Postgraduate Diploma, a student must complete six courses to include the relevant core course and at least four of the electives designated as relevant to the specialism in question.

Semesters - Tuition commences in January each year for exams in June and in July each year for exams in December.

 

Examinations - March * , June, August * , and December of each year. Exams are held at UWI centres across the Caribbean . CARICOM Nationals are able to write examinations in their respective countries.

 

Exemptions - Exemptions from specific core courses may be granted to holders of recognised academic or professional qualifications if they are of degree level and if they have been obtained by examination. You cannot be granted exemption from an elective course.

 

Eligibility for exemption is based on academic achievement only, not on work experience! You are advised not to purchase a course until you have applied for and received a response from Edinburgh Business School on your exemption. 

 

If your application is unsuccessful, the exemption fee will be used to cover your exam fee in the respective course and you should contact your SBCS Student Advisor to purchase your course.

 

Additional Information - Registration as a Heriot-Watt University MBA Student ensures that the student will automatically be registered as a matriculated part-time student at Heriot-Watt University , and as such will receive a matriculation card.
